- Luke Brower
- May 9, 2010
- Series: 1 & 2 Timothy
Passage: 1 Timothy 2:8-15
Three distractions to true worship
1. Divisive Argumentation (vs.8)
- Gather around the one thing you have in common
- Stop arguing
- Lift up holy hands
- Submission to God
- Openness to each other
- Men can be stubborn and prideful
- This has no place in worship
- If you must have your way; you can't submit to God's way
- Put Jesus back as the Senior Pastor
- When we lift up holy hands in worship, everything will fade away
2. Self Promotion (vs.9-10)
- Worship is not about me. I am not the center of attention
- Promoting yourself amd own beauty kills worship
- How you live revels who you worship
- Women who love Jesus and clothe themselves in worship
- are intoxicating and contagious with Jesus' love
- instead of being a distraction to worship, bring others to worship Jesus
3. Power Struggles (vs.11-15)
- Hard to understand what this passage really means
- Throughout history women have been devalued by men
- Women feel they need to stick up for themselves
- Do we submit to God's Word eventhough we don't always get it?
- Can we pick and choose what we will believe?
- His Truth is the only truth
- His way is always best
- Trying to change what the verses say is just men trying to make the Word say what they want it to say
- False teachers messed things up
- Women had to fight for recognition
- Has no place in the church. We dont leverage for power
- If Jesus is the Senior Pastor, there will be no power stuggles
- Command is not a vocal quietness, but a submission in worship
- Adam was formed first then Eve
- Genesis 2 - Men were given the resposibillity of leadership
- Men and women are equal in value, but have different roles
- She will be saved through childbearing
- From Eve's body, from her offspring, came the woman who would give birth to Jesus - Savior of the world
